Keten Informatie Systeem (chain information system, KiS): a technological online system for diabetes patients
KIS 2.0 is an interactive follow-up system for type 2 diabetes patients and their carers. This is a project within the European EIT Health programme and a co-operation of five EU countries: Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Spain.
Increasing number of diabetes patients
The number of patients with type 2 diabetes increases every year. We live longer, spend large portions of our life seated and lead an unhealthy lifestyle. The support and follow-up for patients will need to be handled differently in the near future in order to keep bearing the high costs.
KIS 2.0 for prevention and self-management KIS 2.0 addresses this need with a tool for prevention and self-management. KIS is an interactive system in which both patients and healthcare professionals can add and share data such as insulin levels and lab results. The system also offers an online education programme with videos. VitalHealth and Medclinik developed the technology, imec co-ordinates the project, and Rise, Philips, Macx, Vilans, Optimedis and MSD were collaborators. LiCalab runs a survey in Belgium among 100 patients and guides the life test with 50 type 2 diabetes patients in Flanders. Sweden and Germany are also performing the tests. KIS 2.0 runs from January until December 2016.
